The pruning

The countdown comes to the end: in our vineyard, the pruning of each vine is soon completed. It is a very long job, fully handmade by "women and men of the vineyard", with patience, courage and denial! Indeed, the climate is exceptionally cold this year: a lot of snow, and temperatures often below normal.

The quality of the next harvest depends of a good pruning. It is the first step of a new production cycle. We make this operation since january to the end of march (sometimes beginning of april...)

Do not kid yourself: the pruning is an absolute precision work, and needs to know perfectly the particularities of vine. Each person that prune in the vineyard holds a degree.

The pruning allows a good flow of sap to the future buds.
Otherwise, the silhouette of each vine must be balanced not to have to much leaves. The sunlight must come regularly.

Several pruning systems exists for each grape.
The Chardonnay covers 95% of our vineyard, and the good pruning for it is called "Chablis". The fruits are at the ends of branches.
